Half
Wave Rectifier
Aim: To implement a Half-Wave Rectifier circuit with and
without a capacitive filter and to calculate its ripple factor
Requirement:
Function Generator 1Digital Multimeter 1CRO (20 MHz dual) 1Diode 1N4007 1Resistor 1 K 1Capacitor 1Breadboard 1Circuit
Diagram: Activity
1: Without Capacitive Filter
Procedure:
1. Connect the circuit as shown in circuit
diagram Fig.5.1
2. Apply the input
sine wave of magnitude 5V(P-P) and frequency 1kHz to the rectifier and observe the output waveform
3. Sketch the output waveform as observed in
the CRO
4. Measure the output dc voltage(Vdc)
and the peak output ac voltage(Vm) using the CRO and the digital
multimeter .
5.
Calculate the ripple factor using the formula given bellowγ = Vrms / Vdc
Where Vrms is the rms value of
the ac component =Vm / 2
Activity
2: With Capacitive Filter
Procedure:
Procedure:
1. Connect the capacitor across the load
2. Repeat step 2 to 5 of Activity 1.
3. Also
calculate the ripple factor using the formula and compare the result.
γ = Vrms
/ Vdc
4. Sketch the input/output waveform .Conclusion:
